Bournemouth Creatives New Mini Fund

Bournemouth Creatives are launching a new Mini Fund for the arts. We plan to award small amounts of money to people who can come up with a great way to spend it. This could be to allow you to buy materials, to use for advertising your idea, to produce printed material etc etc. Your only limit is your imagination.
The fund is open to everyone; individuals or groups, but you must give a good reason for needing the money. The fund is also for all forms of art – from painting, music, theatre, photography – anything creative! Please write a proposal on one side of A4 (digitally) and include your name and contact details. BC will choose the best of these to ‘pitch’ to the group at a meeting. We will then have an anonymous vote to choose the winner who will be awarded the money on the night. The first award will be for £100.
Bournemouth Creatives will publicise the winners and the results of the money being used. This should help bring the artist publicity, but also check they have spent the money as per the proposal.
The first award night will be at our July meeting – 20th July. Entries must be received by 30th June and those chosen to ‘pitch’ their idea on the night will be notified by 13th July.
If you are not sure whether this is for you – maybe unsure if you’d qualify – just give it a go anyway – all you have to loose is the chance to win £100 to spend on your arts project!
Email your proposals to This e-mail address is being protected from spambots. You need JavaScript enabled to view it by 13th July 2011.

‘Fancy knitting a cauliflower or crocheting a couple or carrots?’

Blooming Marvellous - intergenerational community knitted/crocheted garden project

An, exciting, unique community-knitting/crochet project called Blooming Marvellous has just commenced and is working in partnership with Bournemouth Libraries.

This is an Intergenerational community knitting/crochet project where the elderly pass on their knitting and crochet skills to the younger generation and the community works together to create a knitted/crocheted 3D garden.  Ideas for the garden so far include a crazy paving path, a vegetable patch, and a woodland walk, knitted garden tools and a wheelbarrow.

This is mainly a Bournemouth project but knitters are joining in from USA, Italy, Canada, with knitters knitting from now until end of April 2011.

Band Night - part 2!

Bournemouth Creative’s August meeting showcased a range of local bands, all displaying an impressive array of talent. Eclectic was the theme of the night – laid-back jazz, mournful love songs and raucous rock and roll beats filled the Winchester with delicious melodies.

Band Night - part 1!

Wanna hear a sad story? No? Oh, go on. It has a good ending.

Once upon a time there was a woman who got married and had children, and for years and years used that as an excuse not to go out to pubs and see live bands. This made her very unhappy, and she would often sit next to her Zanussi double oven and integrated grill, and weep hot, bitter tears.
